Good morning! And what a lovely sunny morning it is.

I woke up soooore from yesterday’s Body Pump. To me, the best remedy for soreness is a nice long walk in the sunshine. So, this morning that’s just what I did! Because I was walking I had a few minutes of extra time, which meant I could put on some new gear and take a few pics :).

First, some socks from the kind people at New Balance.

I love the little “L” and “R” markings. The sock I usually wear to work-out in are cheap ones from Target so socks that belong on specific sides of your body impress me greatly! They were light and comfortable and best of all fit nicely on my giant feet :).

Also, I put on one of my new Old Navy tank tops from Quinn!

Sorry for my ugly face, it was 6:30 in the morning :). Although I then had to put on a sweatshirt and then a vest to stay warm out there I think this tank top enhanced my walking abilities tremendously. Thanks Quinn!!

I walked in the blustery wind along the Potomac for an hour and then came home for my shower and breakfast.

This breakfast featured the most amazing thing to hit Greek yogurt…ever. My sweet sweet friends bought me some lemon curd from Cowgirl Creamery for my bday. I tested it out on some yogurt last night and it was all I could dream about until this morning! So I put it in my tummy once again. This is a container of Fage 2% with a tbsp. of flax, 1/4 cup of Dorset Cereal muesli and a dollop of that heavenly goodness. Plus an orange.

I have an ultra-fun lunch planned for today with The Pancake Girl. Details to come!

Computerless Blogger (?)

Most evenings before I leave work I do a little planning in my head about what to make for dinner when I get home. Yesterday was a struggle…I couldn’t think of anything creative! So I was so happy when I stumbled on this recipe from Caitlin. It sounded delish and I had most of the ingredients, so I made a version of my very own.

Mine contained:

  • tbsp. olive oil
  • scoop of minced garlic
  • a can of kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • a can of black olives, drained
  • 2 big handfuls of spinach
  • pepper
  • chilli sauce

I cooked everything together, mashed it up and topped some brown rice with the results.

This was SO GOOD. Seriously. So good. And the best part is there was lots left over for a lovely lunch today.

I also called DELL last night and if I want to get my computer fixed it’s going to be $230! I am so mad at myself. Whyyyyyy did I have to spill milk. Why why why. But I can’t be a blogger with no computer, right? Oh the dilemma.

This morning I was up early for Body Pump. Since being sick, I can definitely feel my strength for working-out has decreased. Oh what a week can do! I did my very best though and I’m sure in no time I’ll be back on track.

After class I came home to shower and make some breakfast before work.

A chopped apple simmered with a tbsp. of maple syrup, a tbsp. of water and lots of cinnamon. Topped with 2 tbsp. of muesli, a dollop of Greek yogurt, a peanut butter spoon and more cinnamon. I love this meal!

So, in other exciting news we have three more participants in the Cut the Crap challenge! Anna, Kim and Samantha. Anna is actually my friend from work and we sit facing each other all day. So if either of us tries to step out of line we’ll have one another’s eagle eyes to stop the offender :). mwhahaha.

Good Start

Mooorning. Goodness, I’m tired today. I plan on doing early morning work-outs this week now that one of my night classes is over and I have some more time to myself but it was hard convincing my body it wanted to go to sleep so early! Oh well, I’m sure it will be especially ready for early bed time tonight now.

So let’s see where I left you…

Sunday afternoon my roommate and I watched one of my very favorite movies, Vicky Christina Barcelona. It’s just gorgeous. On Friday we watched Broken Embraces which was also very good so I suppose it was Penelope Cruz filled weekend! I’m not much of a movie watcher but now that I subscribe to Netflix I’m trying to get into them more. Anyone have any good suggestions? I can only ever keep my queue at like 3 movies long :).

After the movie watching I just did all the lame things that you have to do on the weekends when you’re a grown up (boo). But at least I it feels soooo satisfying to get it done. And then I could fully enjoy this very delicious dinner!

Broccoli, tomato and seafood stir-fried in olive oil, soy sauce, chili sauce and garlic over brown rice. And a nice dollop of roasted eggplant on top. YUM it was good. And very Cut the Crap appropriate, no? 🙂

I am officially NEVER SPINNING AGAIN after almost passing out at the last class so sadly there were no classes to be taken at my gym this morning. Instead I did a work-out of 30 minutes on the elliptical and about 20 minutes of abs and arm work.

Post-workout brekkie was eaten from my lovely new Green Lite Bites bowl! Love Fit Bloggin swag :).

My bananas are not ripe enough for oats yet so this was just 1/2 cup of Ju’s fruity date oatmeal made with 1/2 milk and 1/2 water and a tbsp. of flax with a spoon of peanut butter on top. I lurve this oatmeal because it has bits of nut and dried fruit mixed right it. I don’t even have to deck it out for it to taste wonderful :).

Weekend in a Nut Shell

Hi All!

Hope you’ve had great weekends. Mine’s been really nice and quite relaxing. I was meant to help with my work volunteer day or help my little sis get moved in to her new place but as I’ve not been feeling well I thought it best to just take it easy. Saturday I went for a nice long walk and to the gym for a bit of strength training before meeting my friend Jackie for lunch and shopping. We ate at Agraria in Georgetown which is owned by the same people as Founding Farmers and therefore quite delicious. I wish I had a pic of the fabulous fish tacos that I ate but alas, my camera battery died.

In the evening Joelle and her friend came over for a champagne toast to her new job(!) and then the three of us, along with my roommate Allison, went out for drinks. We started at Russia House where I had one martini and had to call it a night. Boo being sick. But from what I hear the ladies enjoyed the rest of their evening greatly :).

This (dreary) morning I had a delish bowl of banana oats.

Topped with crushed oat bran swirls, pumpkin butter, cinnamon, dried cranberries and a peanut butter spoon. Yummm.

I went for another walk today and *hopefully* by tomorrow I’ll be well enough to get back to the gym. I’ve been walking all week because of being sick and I miss a good sweat to be honest!

Now I’m just doing a bit of computer work to get all of my Food Writing Course materials before the online class gets shut down and then it’s off to Trader Joe’s for some weekly groceries.

Medicine, I Love You

So I’d been trying to go the “all natural” route and let my body heal itself but as of today I’d had it. I bought some medicine and let me tell you, I LOVE medicine. I feel SO MUCH BETTER! So much in fact I’m going out tonight :).

Cut the Crap Challenge!

Hey all! Happy Friday! Today’s especially exciting because I’m officially booked on a flight to Florida! I’ll be going April 11-17th to Sarasota with my family. I love sunshine, I love my family and I love doing nothing most of all 🙂 so I am excited!!

On my favorite Cleveland foodie blogger’s blog this morning I read about a 20 day Cut the Crap Challenge which begins today! What perfect timing – cause after this loooong winter I need to get IN SHAPE for the beach! I only have 17 days but that’s good enough, right? The GDW plan is a little different from my own, so here’s what I have in mind:

  • 3 drinks or less/week – I had been drinking A LOT in Jan/Feb this year. Which made for a lot of FUN! but I felt pretty crappy. I actually cut down to three drinks three weeks ago but I was being quiet about it. You know, in case I failed miserably :).
  • Less sugar/NO artificial sweeteners – I am STILL CHEWING GUM!! I think I’ve tried to quit 100 times already. But I’m sure I can actually do it for 17 days, right??
  • 4 days or more/week workout
  • More fruits, veggies and water
  • Healthy choices when dining out 

So that’s not too bad, right? If anyone else wants to join in, speak up! The more the merrier of course :).

To kick-off the challenge, a nice fruit-filled smoothie this morning:

The smoothie was a mix of a banana, 6 frozen strawberries, a cup of vanilla soy milk and a tablespoon of chia seeds. A serving of oat bran swirls on the side.

For lunch today, I tried a new place near my office Mixt Greens. I love the concept of a mixed salad bar but at *some* places I find the salads are massive and heavy. Blech. But I loved this place! It was so fresh and light and delicious. I had the Mauibutter lettuce, seared ahi tuna, tomatoes, red onions, mango, avocado, cucumber and crushed macadamia nuts in a mango citrus vinaigrette.

I especially liked that they ask you “light, medium or heavy” on the dressing. I only like a little this was just perfect. Yum, yum.

So yay for Friday my friends. I am going to try to keep it low-key for the most part so that I can recover 100% from the yuckiest cold of all time, but I do have a thing or two to celebrate including a J-O-B for this girl! Congrats Joelle! 🙂

Skipping Class

I’m not quite sure what I was thinking yesterday. I hate being sick so maybe I was pretending I’m recovered when I’m not but working out right now just doesn’t seem like a good idea! I realized that as I was headed home with a headache from coughing so hard all day and decided instead to just go on a nice walk while chatting with my big brother on the phone. It was lovely to be out in the sunshine anyway and that meant I wasn’t breathing so deep it was bothering my lungs even more. Sometimes you have to be gentle on yourself!

In other cold related news: I have to miss culinary school tonight :(. I’m really sad! For one though, I’m sure no one wants me in the kitchen and around their food with all my germy coughing. Also, I usually don’t get to bed until late on Thursday nights by the time I get home and I don’t think a less than healthy body can deal with a lack of sleep very well.

So no gym and no culinary school. What is a girl to do!?

Oh well. We all get sick so I’ll shut up about it now :).

With no school I worked my usual shift today, which meant a bit of time to make a yummy breakfast.

2 pieces of Trader Joe’s three seed bread with warm mashed banana, maple almond butter and cinnamon. One of my faves :).

And a little glass of OJ. I’m determined to kick this thing by the weekend!!
