Last week our fridge was broken (grr) and so we had to condense all of our food into a little back-up fridge we have in our entry-way. This meant we couldn’t keep very much in there and I ended up eating some very random meals! So now that things are back in working order I went a little wild at Whole Foods on Saturday. But it feels nice to have lots and lots of fresh food in stock finally!
No better use for lots of fresh veg than a big salad. And so that was last night’s dinner.
Arugula with beets, tomato, carrot a crumbled veggie burger and a wedge of bucheron cheese. I love bucheron cheese…like goat cheese on the inside with a brie-like outside…what a delightful combination.
On the side I had some Kashi TLC bruchetta crackers. It was the first time I’d had them and they were delish – so flavorful!
This morning was a little frustrating. I COULD NOT fall asleep last night for no particular reason. So when my alarm went off for morning Body Pump I was suuuper tired. But I got out of bed anyway, reasoning I would feel awake after a good work-out. But when I arrived, no instructor!!! How annoying is that!? No one even knew where she was. It’s not possible for me to do a regular work-out without an iPod, which I didn’t have, so I left :(. However, I decided instead to buy a giant coffee and go for a nice long walk in the sunshine. So at least waking up wasn’t a total waste! After being annoyed, it ended up being a pretty lovely morning really :).
I need a good book. I just finished The Man Who Ate Everything, which my sweet friends bought me for my bday this year. It was so good! But now I need something else. Perhaps a little reading before bed will help me sleep like a baby :). Any good book suggestions?
– Beth
I have a ton of book suggestions!! What are you in the mood for? Particular genres?
Oh yay!!! Well, I usually only read memoirs and I’d kind of like to branch out a bit more. Something fictional that I can get totally sucked into would be perfect :).
I am actually finally reading Julie & Julia – a co-worker lent it to me and its a pretty quick read – so much more character than the movie!
Have you read Something Borrowed? Really cute book!
The Raw Shark Texts was awesome!
The Bell Jar
Oh tooooo many to list! LOL
Have not read it although I have seen it on book shelves a few times. Thank you for the suggestions Dawn!
I’m about to start The Girl Who Played With Fire for our bookclub, it’s the second in the series, the first is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The only thing is that it’s slow moving at the beginning, but once you get in you might have to stay up all night to finish it like I did.
I hope you complained about there being no instructor to gym management! That would have really bothered me!
Unfortunately I have no real book suggestions… I’m not much of a reader, when I do read, its chick lit 😉
I did talk to the front desk guy and he had no idea what was going on…. so annoying!! And hey, nothing wrong with a little chick lit. At least you’re reading, right!?
Ummm….The Glass Castle, anything by Jodi Picoult, any of the Mitch Albom books….
I would have been upset this morning if I would have gotten out of bed for class! Your idea of a coffee and a walk sounds absolutely refreshing though!
Hmm…books…here are some I’m reading/or just recently read, that I’d recommend:
The Glass Castle
The Girls from Ames
True Colors
hmmm…who are your favorite authors? i love tom perrota and haruki murakami, whose books i can’t put down when i start them.
I am generally big into memoirs so I like a variety of different authors. Thank you for the suggestions though! Just what I’m looking for…some variety :).
Ever read Kitchen Confidential? Loved that book. Or the Making of a Chef? Or Dating Mr Latte? All foodie books that make you drool! Well, not really for Kitchen Confidential, but Bourdain’s writing always cracks me up.
goat cheese on the inside with a brie-like outside….oh em. gi. Sounds like orgasm in the mouth!
I have read Kitchen Confidential and loved it! Thanks for the other two ideas…I feel I would love them :).
Love beets and veggie burgers in salads, so good! I really loved the Shopaholic series or anything by Sophie Kinsella for an easy read.
What was that book about?? It sounds intruguing from the title!
It’s by Jeffery Steingarten who was the food writer at Vouge. It is a collection of essays on all the things he ate and did…hilarious and delicious! Highly recommend it :).
Yummy salad! Nothing like loading up on a freaking huge plate of color eh?
I couldn’t sleep last night either and managed to still get up this morning. It IS nice to get up early though even if it’s rough for a few minutes. Glad yours turned out good too!
[…] I’ll Body Pump tonight since yesterday didn’t go so well. Perhaps […]
If you want some deep and well written fiction I’d suggest “Fall on your Knees” by Anne Marie MacDonald.
This isn’t a light read by any means. It’s a disturbing story about the dynamic of a seriously messed up family.
It gives me chills when I read it. It’s honestly the best book I’ve ever read.
