OhMyGod it’s gross outside. Cold, wet and miserable. Does that sound like the makings of a good weekend!? As the girl in Trader Joe’s said to me, it’s one of those times when all you want to do is snuggle under a giant blanket with a good movie and some Chinese food. That sounded tempting!
Despite the grossness I’ve made an effort to make the most of my day. I actually took more pics than usual, so let’s dive right in.
Most certainly an oatmeal morning. I sense most mornings now are going to be! I made my favorite combo, sans banana cause I was out. It’s just not the same :O(.
- 1/2 cup each oats/vanilla soy/water – more than usual b/c of the missing banana
- splash of vanilla
- tbsp. flax
- tbsp. dried cranberries
- tbsp. coconut
- 1/2 serv. dark choco chips
- cinnamon
- pb spoon
Aaand a giant cup of coffee. Yum. Tempting as it was, I did not stay inside and instead braved the elements to head to the gym. 25 minutes on the elliptical, 10 minutes of abs work and a 10 minute cool down on the treadmill. Hooooly do my arms hurt from Thursday’s session. I guess I lost some muscle during my gym-break! Bummer. All the more incentive to get back to it ASAP :O).
After a shower and a few chores, I hopped on the metro and headed out to VA to meet my friend Jackie for lunch. We went to PF Chang’s. I had the lunch special – hot and sour soup and the lunch size sesame chicken with broccoli and red pepper. Nummy.
I also drank about 30 cups of green tea. It’s a tea kind of day!
So, Jackie and I both moved out to DC/VA totally on our own. We’ve known each other since high school and although we don’t live close enough to see each other often, it is soooo comforting to see a long-time familiar face every couple weeks. She’s made her move a year before I did so she’s the best for advice and relating to what I’m going through out here. During lunch today we were talking about how much doing something like this can teach and change you. So you would not believe what my fortune cookie said!!
In case you haven’t noticed, I love when things like that happen.
After I got back into DC I forced myself to go grocery shopping since I knew once I got in my cozy little house there would be no turning back! I haaaaate Trader Joe’s on a Saturday, but sometimes it’s just necessary. Here’s the loot:
I had a good afternoon of Saturday catch-up things and made a lunch-like dinner since lunch was dinner-like. I’m confusing myself right now.
An egg and cheese sammie on wheat toast with a giant honey crisp (love) apple, chopped up with cinnamon and a drizzle of raw almond butter. Looks like our little ghost man salt shaker kind of ruined the fall decoration background! Well at least he’s halloweeny :O).
Sooo, that was a lotta pics for one day! I sure do admire food bloggers who photograph everything they eat all the time. Impressive stuff!
Now, I think it’s totally excusable for me to snuggle down under a giant blanket for the evening :O).

Ok, that’s it. Starting this week I’m gonna start making oatmeal. You guys just make it look so good. 😛
And I can’t find hummus for sale here and it sucks 😐 I’ve never tried hummus!
Hope you had a nice evening! 🙂
You have to try hummus!!! It’s so yummy. It’s not too hard to make at home actually – perhaps you can go that route instead :O)
that Tj’s girl is so right, perfect “date” for days like this is a good movie, yummy food and a blanket all day long!! But you did something very productive, girl…. nice meeting up with friends! 🙂
Everything looks so delicious! Banana in my oatmeal is a fave too…definitely not the same without it! Really wish I had a TJ’s here! Oh well, can’t win em all! 😉
