Welcome back from the weekend! Did you enter the Salad as a Meal cookbook giveaway contest yet? Winners picked at 4PM today!
Yesterday’s sushi and World Malbec Day celebration was just fabulous. Sushi and Malbec are a bit of an odd combination but since we’d already decided on Sushi Sunday when we found out it was also World Malbec Day, we just pushed the two into one. Delicious + Delicious = Double Delicious…so I see no problem!
I’ve never made sushi before, although it always sounded like so much fun. We pretty much spent the entire day rolling sushi, drinking wine and loving life. I can’t imagine a better Sunday.
Enjoy the process:
Seaweed, spread thinly with rice.
Crab, cucumber and avocado.
Rolled tightly tightly.
Success!
All sliced up.
Drizzled with sriracha mayo.
Ready to eat!
With edamame and seaweed salad, off our girly Easter plates :).
We made several different kinds, with combinations of crab, smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado and cucumber. We did attempt to get sushi grade tuna but sadly Harris Teeter did not have it (even though they said they did on their website!). However, then we got into a conversation about food poisoning and decided that our amateur sushi-skills were probably better suited to cooked fish anyway :).
Now that I’ve done it once, I can only imagine all of the sushi-making possibilities! So I think you can expect to see it again very soon.
See you with the SAAM winner later today!
Looks SO beautiful! I’ve never made or really even had sushi. Glad you guys had fun 🙂
I want to try making sushi soooo badly! The combination possibilities are endless…
Mmmm…sushi! Looks beautiful. I think I could handle the sushi/malbec combo pretty well 🙂
I love making sushi, but yours looked awesome! Yum!!!!!!
Dear friend, this posts makes me so sad that we do not live closer to each other.
Love,
Allison
PS – lets do that whole quit our jobs, go to culinary school, make our own biz thing. K? 😛
Oh Allison, I’m sad we don’t live closer too! Of course, if we quit our jobs, went to culinary school and opened our own business that would no longer be a problem :).
I am so impressed. I have never made sushi before but anytime I do think about it, I think about Samantha in Sex and the City haha.. I imagine your Sunday was not like that.
VERY VERY impressive. That is great looking sushi. Have a good Monday Beth!
Your sushi looks so much better than the ones we made!
I love the soy wrappers – I can’t get on board with the nori.
Great job!
Good job! Once you get the rhythm, it’s a cinch. Try a rose with sushi this summer. Unexpectedly yummy combo too.
Your sushi looks AWESOME! Totally looks very professional! I’ve never tried making my own, but now you’ve gotten me interested!
I just had (for the first time) sushi I liked last week. It was a big veggi roll and oh so good. I’m looking forward to trying more varieties!
I’m not brave enough to try and make it but looks like you did a fantastic job!
Not a huge sushi fan, but this looks so good. I love Malbec though! Your photos are beautiful, btw.
you make it look SO easy…i know i’d find a way to screw it up though…haha i guess i’ll have to rely on wegman’s prepackaged for now.
lol
xo.
